This has been my most interesting video to write about so far, not just because of the spooky and exhilarating aesthetic. This Slipknot music montage throws together a series of shots which hone in on certain parts of the band, like the hand, the foot tapping or their eyes. It leaves the full image of the band playing to our mystery, I love it.
The video is in 21:9 aspect ratio, adding its flare in each way it can. This already makes the video stand out on its own amongst a crowded 16;9 screened wall. The colour grading fits the style perfectly and we are instantly reminded on the early 2000s rock era. The film has a green tint which washes out the skin tone, making them look zombie like (who'd have guessed). This, in conjunction with the over-exposure, gives it a really unique filter, one that continually draws my eye in to watch, over-and-over.
Their hanging face masks don't fail to greet us (and scare us), it is just cleverly edited together, slowly but surely letting us see everything, teasing the audiences with the rarity of seeing the band's true faces. Of course, this ran with their anonymity at the time, fitting.
Personally this whole minimalistic concept was very successful and I'd like to see more of this type of thing, people in bands go for it, challenge SlipKnot I dare you!
Do it #beforeyouforget
